Self Esteem refers to how positively or negatively we view ourselves. People with low self esteem usually view their traits as negative Our self esteem is constantly reinforced everyday by the reactions people have to you and how they treat you. So, your specific environment plays a huge role in your self esteem. If you are surrounded by people who generally tend to put you down, you are going to have a better chance of having problems with your self esteem. Also, your genetics play a major role too. If you are genetically predisposed to depression and anxiety, you are going to be at a higher risk for low self esteem. The way someone was brought up can also factor in. If you have a non- supportive and abuse home life you are at high risk for low self esteem.
The best advice that I can give is to surround yourself with people that are positive and that will see the best in you and not put you down!

<a href="http://answers.yahoo.com">Powered by Yahoo Answers</a>

A person that have usually a low self esteem caused by parent´s poor moral support and motivation. There are 85% of parent´s doesn´t know about child care and psycology. This type of parents always critized their children and descouraging them when they made mistakes, this causes a child low self steem, lossing their self confidents until they becomes matured. They need someone to motivate them and someone to admire them in everything they accomplish.
I always tell my children they are very good children, intelligents, handsome. beautiful etc. I appreciate every single thing they accomplish, i always say you are really smart! showing them that i am very happy for what they have done! and they became true bec they want to prove to me that i am not mistaken, they want to please me bec i showed them my love and children when you show you trusted in them, they will not disappoint you. If you will always tell your children bad boy, naughty, stupid, dull all kinds of bad words then they will grow the way you told them. This is called child psycology. Even they are bad tell them they are good.
If you are already matured and yoú have this low self esteem problem, it will take time to heal you, you need someone to convince you that you can really make it. you need someone to lift you up, to support you with love, someone to appreciate you, someone that says you are wonderful! but you can help yourself. Be confident, don´t listen to other´s critizism, forgive them, be strong deep breath now and say to yourself: I can make it! I don´t care what other says about me! I can make it!
To man it is impossible, but to God nothing is impossible. Try God and you will be healed in a minute. if you need my help i am willing to. All the best, You Can Make It! I`m sure!

Poor but proud is not low esteem. Having expectations that are in error about important things to you will destroy your mind chemically and psychologically.

<a href="http://answers.yahoo.com">Powered by Yahoo Answers</a>

Low self esteem is basically how you see your self and the value you apply to yourself as a person. To cut through the psych stuff to the heart it's basically how you are treated growing up will affect your confidence and how you see yourself. If anyone is told often enough that they are ugly, fat, a loser, or stupid, they will believe it even though it may not be true. You can be called fat when you're not and grow up believing you are and end up with an eating disorder. If a you tell a child long enouenough they are a waste of space they will believe it and never come close to the potential they really have. Another devastating situation is when a child tries to tell about someone abusing them and no one will do a thing. They will grow up believing that they weren't worth protecting and this sets them up for more abuse as they grow older. The more it happens the deeper that belief is ingrained. Adopted children often feel that they were rejected and if the biological parent/s couldn't find a way to keep them then they must be......well some have even said evil. What is being said and done doesn't need to be true to affect a person, it's what is said and done. i know of a friend who in grade 4 was stood at the front of the classroom every week. This teacher picked out 2 or 3 of the smallest children every year to do this to and everyone dreaded him. The rest of the class was allowed to make fun of them and if they cried they had to stand there longer. This poor child told her father and he said that he'd told the teacher he could do whatever he liked and the parents would stop him. This is less likely to happen now but it is true and you can't imagine the damage it did to the child.

I have found that the only way to combat this is to take responsibility for your won actions regardless of what everyone around you is doing. I choose how I speak to people and treat them. Jesus had it right when He said to treat others how you would like to be treated. It's so simple but it would save so many a world of misery and pain.

Join me, make a difference, treat people how you would like to be treated, it's fantasic for your ouwn self esteem!

It just happens. Some of it comes from how people treat you, sometimes it's just all in your head. The trick is to not letting it get the best of you.

It really all depends on the individual. Factors such as family life, health, appearance, weight, height, race, gender, regrets in life, social status, career, relationship status, wealth or lack thereof, and countless other factors will contribute to a person's self esteem. For example, a gorgeous millionaire may feel like she is not adequate and have low self esteem because she does not have a good relationship with her family, and a very poor and unattractive man may have excellent self esteem because he has a very fulfilling life and wonderful family. Like I said, it really all depends on the individual.

I think the first answer is almost right.....I feel our low self esteem comes from how we perceive ourselves threw others opinions.

Which is wrong...but even I do it....sometimes I find myself feeling low because I want to please everybody else....When I should be pleasing my innerself first.
