The Importance Of Developing Self Confidence

Ideally, self confidence is a personality trait that you should develop early and maintain throughout your life. For many of us, though, that just isn’t the case – as either the process of developing self confidence is stymied early on by several factors, or we lose confidence because of certain life events.

Nowadays, it is relatively rare to meet someone who is entirely satisfied with his or her selves level of confidence. Interestingly enough though, this can also be true of people who might seem (to the casual observer) to exude great confidence and self esteem – in fact, they can even appear brash or over-confident. Sometimes, this is just a front for the lack of confidence that individual is hiding in an attempt to impress other people.

Developing self confidence is an important skill for personal growth, because a lack of confidence can really hold you back in all areas of your life. First of all, it can manifest itself in a great variety of ways. Many people with poor self confidence and low self esteem tend to stay in unsatisfying careers and relationships because they don’t believe in themselves enough to think that they can do better or have the willpower to raise their standards.

Of course, this can often lead to a self perpetuating problem – if you aren’t happy with what you’re doing and where you are heading in life, you are very unlikely to be working to your full capacity or with enthusiasm. Then on top of that, less than stellar results from your work efforts will reinforce the idea that you are a just a mediocre or poor worker. Your self confidence will naturally suffer as a result. All of us deserve to know what it’s like to work at something we truly love in life and all of us deserve to feel like we can achieve anything we set our minds to.

Some of the more frequent activities that result in poor self confidence are addiction or other self destructive behaviors, such as eating disorders. Most eating disorders, such as anorexia or bulimia, result from a feeling that you are somehow inadequate and that you need to be perfect in order to accept yourself or be accepted. As a result, some young women (who are particularly susceptible to this type of problem) have literally starved themselves to death. Developing self confidence early on is probably the best defense against developing addictions, eating disorders and other problems with self image later on.

Finally, if you have poor self confidence, you are unlikely to be enjoying fulfilling relationships with friends, partners or family. One thing that may happen is that you will end up projecting your negative self-worth onto someone else, often a child. On the other hand, you might also be willing to put up with abusive behavior if your self confidence is poor. All in all, developing self confidence is a way to avoid a whole range of debilitating problems.

Developing Self Esteem is No Easy Task. Here are Some Simple Ideas for Help

Developing self esteem seems simple enough to achieve but it is no easy task and requires a dedicated approach if one suffering from low self esteem is to succeed.

Having a positive self esteem goes a long way to helping us achieve our goals through positive thinking and positive action. All of us wish for a happy and successful life. Those suffering from low self esteem don’t think they can reach a goal and may not even try it. Doubts and negativity are the trademark signs of low self esteem and they would therefore never find out if they would have been a success or not. If you seriously wish to live a life filled with contentment and happiness, then you need to possess a healthy dose of self esteem.

Make Positive Thoughts the Norm.

The first step to take with regard to developing positive self esteem is to consciously try to think in a positive manner. Much of the success of the points below stem from positive thinking. If you are one who is in need of developing self esteem, you should take heart from the fact that it is certainly possible and also quite simple to achieve your goals though at the same time it is not very easy to achieve.

Be a Winner

If you tell yourself you are a winner you will come to believe it and will have taken one leap further in developing self esteem. Considering yourself a winner rather than a loser will make you feel great and thus bolster your self esteem.

If you think you are a winner and successful you already halfway to achieving your goal.

Don’t Doubt Success

If you stop doing something before you have really tried because you doubt yourself you may be suffering from low self esteem. Having doubts about your own abilities is a very common symptom of low self esteem. This is the point where you have to have strong positive thoughts and be able to tell yourself that you are totally capable of succeeding and that you could actually do the job better than another individual.

The quote above is a powerful and true one. A key point to developing self esteem is to consciously stop yourself from thinking negatively from dawn until the minute you go to sleep at night. Cast aside all negative thoughts from your mind and think positively, you will be surprised how quickly you can turn your thoughts around.

Turns Anxious Thoughts into Positive Thoughts

Other ways of developing positive self esteem include learning to turn anxiety into positive thinking, learning from your mistakes and to turn mistakes into chances for further self-improvement and making it a point to be in the company of those who bring out the best in you rather than associating with those who make you do the wrong things and do not give you the credit and encouragement you deserve.

Search for Your Real Self

Take some steps to discover your real self. Some other simple steps that you can take with regard to developing self esteem knowing just what you can succeed at and what will make you fail and in addition. You will be able to take responsibility for your own actions.

Encourage Encouragement!

Lastly, developing self esteem also means eliminating all thoughts that can damage your self-esteem and instead you should concentrate only on finding some means to get encouragement and this is best achieved through thinking positively. Again, hanging out with those who will offer you encouragement for your actions will help you every step of the way.

Is it possible for someone who has a lot of emotional baggage to go from having a lifetime of low self-esteem to feeling great about oneself (at least most of the time if not all)? Can this really happen and how?

If this were something so simple that I could “just do it” then I wouldn’t need to ask this question.

Low Self-Esteem: Does it Linger?

People with a healthy self-esteem is one who views life in a positive way. Although self-esteem development should generally start from early childhood, it is never too late to fix past mistakes and try to develop this in adulthood. Self esteem is how one views himself, either negatively or positively.

Low self-esteem will prevent you from showing your real potential. Remember, if you have a low self-esteem, you should try, as much as possible, to overcome it as soon as possible. You may never discover what you can do if only you have the confidence.

Self esteem is very important in a one’s life. It determines what an individual would do or how they would perform. Self esteem literally means how a person views himself. A person with very high self-esteem may be very successful in life. Those who have a high self-esteem trust themselves so that they can get the job done. However, not everybody trust themselves and their capabilities. These people have very low self-esteem.

You probably not notice it but low self-esteem will eventually take its toll on you. If you have low self-esteem, you are going to be noticed more easily . If you are not quite sure why, then let the following descriptions shed some light.

Usually, you think of yourself as someone who is quiet and shy for most of the time, sometimes to the point that you think you are the lowest of the low. You do not believe in your raw talents or on the things that you can accomplish, and you just stay quiet even though you know, deep down in your heart of hearts, that you can do it. If these things happen to you, then something in you questions your capability to execute certain tasks because you feel like you lack the confidence to get the job done.

Low self-esteem actually holds and suffocates you. It keeps you from doing something that you can actually do successfully. It also prevents you from doing something great. Low self-esteem must be erased from every person’s mind so that everyone can perform to the best of their abilities.

When you were born, you did not have low self-esteem. It is not innate. It is developed through hardships and trials. Some events may cause you to lose your confidence. These same events are most usually traumatic and it stays inside your head, which is the reason why you tend to lose your self-esteem bit by bit, sometimes, even as a whole.

For example, you getting humiliated in public, or you made a bad decision, in some point of your life, that cost you something that was significant or very precious to you. Another example would be that, something bad happened in your childhood and it made you lose your self-esteem. Basically, every person does not have low self-esteem or high self esteem at birth, but everyone has a self-esteem that is of medial rate, and it is only your experiences that decides whether you will be having a low one or a high one.

Once your self esteem is lost, does that mean that you will never ever going to have high self esteem again? The answer is definitely not. You can actually regain it. If you have a low self esteem because of previous terrible experiences, one way to remove this problem is to face that certain bad experience and turn it into a good one.

You will have to make that bad thing into something that is more productive. In that way, every time you run into that experience, or any other event that is closely related to the aforementioned, what you will take from it is only the good thing and not the bad feeling you got.

You should always keep in mind that you should protect your self esteem. It is important for the people around you, but more important for your own well-being. You must also remember to teach your kids the values and abilities in order for them to be able to conserve their self esteem. You should ingrain in them confidence to face each day with their heads up high, because low self esteem or lack of confidence will decide what kind of a person they will be.
